Kaizen event plan template

A kaizen event gives a small team a week to study one process, try changes and leave a new standard in place. This example plans a five-day blitz to cut lead time in a hinge assembly cell, from scoping and baseline data on Monday to a trial layout on Thursday and a report-out on Friday afternoon.

How to use this template

  1. Agree the charter and targets

Write the scope, sponsor and three or four measures before the week starts. A team that knows the target from Monday spends less time debating what success means.

  2. Protect the team's time

Release operators from line duties and book maintenance for the trial day, as the pre-event checklist shows. Events stall when the people making the change are called back to production.

  3. Plan the 30 days after

Put open actions on the kaizen newspaper and book the sponsor reviews before Friday. Most of the lasting benefit comes from the follow-up, not the week itself.
