Getting started
Your first diagram
epicdraw is a sketchbook for flowcharts and diagrams. Everything you draw looks hand-drawn, and it saves itself as you go.
- Tap Step in the tray at the bottom, then tap the page. A box appears. Drag it where you want it.
- Double-tap the box (or select it and press Write) and type. Press Enter when you finish.
- Add a second shape. Then choose Arrow, press on the first shape and drag onto the second. An arrow joins them.
- Tap an arrow and press Write to label it, for example "yes".
- Press Fit at the top to zoom so everything is in view.
For a head start, open Templates in the header. Browse the visual gallery by activity or search for a template. Each choice creates a new page, keeping your existing work.
Prefer typing to drawing? Press Build, paste a few lines of text, and epicdraw lays the diagram out for you. See Build from text.

Selection bar
Select something and a small bar appears at the top of the page. It holds Style, Write, Link/note, Duplicate, Group, Lock, More and Delete. The ⋮⋮ handle at its left lets you drag the bar out of the way.
Getting started
Selecting, moving and resizing
- Select by tapping a shape, arrow or drawing. Hold Shift and tap to add more.
- Select many by dragging a box over empty paper. Everything the box touches is selected.
- Move by dragging a selected or unselected shape. Arrows follow.
- Resize with the round handle at the bottom right of a selected shape.
- Rotate with the round handle above it, or use the Rotate buttons in Style (15° steps, 90°, or Straighten).
- Guides: while you drag, dashed lines show when a shape lines up or is evenly spaced with its neighbours, and it snaps to them.
- Move around the page with the Pan tool, or hold Space and drag. Use the + and − buttons at the top left to zoom.
Getting started
Writing in shapes
Double-tap empty space to drop a plain text label right there and start typing. Double-tap a shape, or select it and press Write, to edit its text. Type your text and press Enter to finish. Use Shift+Enter for a new line. Click away to finish as well. Press Esc to cancel.
Shapes that hold lists (to-do lists, tables, charts, timelines, ER tables, Gantt charts) open a larger box. In those, Ctrl+Enter finishes and Enter starts a new line. A hint in the box tells you the format.
Text size, bold, italic and font live in Style. Text wraps to fit the shape and the shape grows if it needs the room.
Drawing
Arrows and connections
- Choose Arrow.
- Press on the first shape and drag. Dots appear on the sides of shapes as you get close.
- Release on the second shape. Release over a dot to attach to that side, or anywhere on the shape to let epicdraw choose.
Changing an arrow
Quick next steps: select a flowchart shape and press a + beside it. A new step appears with an arrow already connected, ready for you to type. Decision diamonds offer + Yes on the right and + No below. New steps avoid existing shapes. Undo removes the new step and its arrow together; if you edited its text, undo the text change first. These shortcuts are hidden for locked, grouped or rotated shapes.
Select the arrow and open Style.
- Arrow: Straight, Curved or Elbow. Two bends adds a second handle for an S shape. Reset bend goes back to automatic.
- From side / To side: pin either end to Top, Right, Bottom or Left. Elbow arrows with pinned sides make tidy flowcharts.
- Heads: One way, Both ways or No head.
- Line: thin, medium, bold, or dashed. Colour changes the ink.
Drag the round handle in the middle of a selected arrow to bend it. Drag its label to move the label. Two arrows between the same pair of shapes curve apart automatically.

Shapes, icons and stickers
Press Icons to open the palette. Choose an item, then tap the page to drop it, or drag on the page to draw it at the size you want. Use the search box to find things by name, for example "tree", "plug" or "venn".
| Group | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Shapes, layouts, charts and notes | Rounded box, triangle, hexagon, star, chevron, block and curved arrows, speech and thought bubbles, callout, cross, plain rectangle and circle, line and arrow line, table, timeline, charts, quote card, frame, divider, sticky note. |
| Interface mockups | Button, input, search box, dropdown, toggle, slider, tabs, nav bar, browser window, phone screen, card, picture box, avatar. |
| Diagram types | Sequence participant, ER table, Gantt chart, two- and three-circle Venn, 2x2 matrix. |
| Workshop | Vote counter. |
| Floor plan | One section with the room, door, window, stairs and measurement line, followed by the furniture icons. |
| Pictures | Before / after slider, photo gallery, cover-up box. |
| Interactive | Progress, status, rating, counter, choice, reveal, fold, timer, go-to button, dice, picker, dot voting, poll, totals. |
| Icon packs | Doodle icons in Animals, Space, Nature, Energy, Food, Transport, Medical, Sport, School, Office, Fairytale, History, Tech, Dinosaurs and Emoji, plus a Stickers pack. |
Icons have a caption underneath. Double-tap to change it. Icons are drawn as art, so resize them freely and recolour them in Style.
Drawing
Pen, marker and shape tidy-up
Pen draws lines exactly as you move. Marker is a wide, see-through highlighter. Pick colour and thickness in Style while the tool is active.
Shape tidy-up
With the pen, draw a rough box, circle, diamond, triangle or straight line and let go. It snaps into a clean, sketched shape you can move, resize and label. A squiggle that isn't one of those stays as your drawing.
Not what you wanted? Press Undo to get your original drawing back. To turn the feature off, select the pen and choose Off under Shape tidy in Style.
Drawing
Style panel: colour, lines and fonts
Select one or more items and press Style. The panel only shows options that apply to what you selected.
| Section | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Fill and Fill style | Colour the inside. Styles: hatch, solid, cross-hatch, scribble, dots. |
| Colour | Change the ink of lines, text on plain shapes, arrows and pen strokes. |
| Line | Thin, medium or bold, and dashed. |
| Rotate | Turn a shape in steps, or straighten it. |
| Text size, Font, Text style | A− / A+, then 11 fonts from tidy sans to bold marker, plus bold and italic. |
| Align | With two or more selected: align left, centre, right, top, middle, bottom. With three or more: spread evenly across or down. |
| Order | Bring to front or send to back. |
Copy one look to other shapes
Select a shape, press Copy style, select others, press Paste style. Shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+C and Ctrl+Alt+V. It copies fill, colour, line, dashes and text settings, not size or text.
Drawing
Group, lock, align and tidy
- Group: select two or more shapes and press Group. They now select and move as one. Select the group and press Ungroup to split it.
- Lock: press Lock so a shape can't be moved or deleted by accident. A small padlock shows on it while it is selected. Press Unlock to release it. Good for backgrounds such as floor plan walls.
- Align and spread: see the Style table above.
- Tidy: the top-bar Tidy button re-lays out flowchart shapes. Choose top to bottom or left to right.
Drawing
Notes, checklists, tables and timelines
Sticky notes and quote cards
Add from the tray (Sticky) or the palette. Type your text, and pick a colour in Style.
To-do lists
Choose To-do. The first line of the text is the title and each following line is an item. Start a line with [x] to tick it. Tap a checkbox on the page to tick or untick it. A counter such as 2/5 shows in the corner.
Tables
One row per line, cells separated by |. You can also paste straight from a spreadsheet.
Task | Owner | Due Design | Sam | Fri Build | Alex | Next week
Timelines
One milestone per line, as date | what happens.
Lanes and frames
A lane is a big labelled area for grouping shapes (swim lanes). A frame is a titled box. Neither blocks the shapes inside them, so you can click through to select them.
Drawing
Pictures, links and notes
Image places a picture from your device. It is stored inside the page, so it goes with your backups and exports. Keep pictures small to keep the page quick.
Select any shape and press Link/note to attach a web link, a note or both. A link shows a small chain badge you can tap. A note shows on hover, and both appear in the strip under the controls in Present mode.
Drawing
Picture tools: crop, sketch, pins and more
Select a picture and open Style. You'll find these sections. New pictures are shrunk to 900 pixels on the long side to keep the page small, and you can paste one from the clipboard or drop it on the page.
| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Picture shape | Rectangle, rounded corners or a circle (good for avatars and org charts). |
| Crop and fit | Fit whole shows everything. Fill frame crops to the frame. Zoom in/out and Move inside frame (drag the picture, the faded outline shows the whole thing) choose what is visible. |
| Picture look | Hand-drawn sketch turns a photo into a pencil-style line drawing. Stamp makes a one-colour ink print. Both use your ink colour, so they suit any paper. The original is kept, so switch back any time. |
| Picture opacity | 100%, 60%, 35% or 15%. |
| Notes on the picture | Numbered pin, Callout (a label with a pointer) and Hotspot (drag a box over an area). Pins and hotspots stay attached when you move or resize the picture. Drag one to move it. Double-tap the picture to write the text, one line per pin in the order added. Tap a pin or hotspot to show or hide its note. A hotspot line that starts with > and a page name, for example > Floor 2, jumps to that page when tapped. |
| Behind the drawing | Use as page background locks a picture behind everything, like a map or scanned floor plan. Trace over it does the same at 35% opacity so you can draw over it. Use Page then Background picture to unlock or remove it, or to set a new one. |
| Picture tools | Make a gallery from several selected pictures. Before / after from exactly two (left one is before). Burn cover-up boxes in paints any cover-up boxes over the picture permanently. |
Picture shapes in the Icons palette
- Before / after: a slider. Drag the handle to reveal one picture over the other. Tap an empty side to pick a picture, or use the style panel.
- Photo gallery: a grid of pictures. Tap one to open it as a slideshow with arrows, and tap the small grid button to go back. Drop several pictures at once to get a tidy grid, then combine them.
- Cover-up box: a solid black bar, scribble, mosaic or REDACTED label to hide part of a screenshot. It is opaque, so nothing shows through. The picture underneath is still in the saved file until you use Burn cover-up boxes in.
On a locked page the slider, gallery arrows, pins and hotspots all still work, so a picture can act as an interactive map or diagram.
Pages and templates
Pages, templates and copying between pages
- Tabs across the top are your pages. Tap a tab to open it. Tap the open tab again to rename it. Tap the × beside it, then Delete?, to remove it.
- New page: tap + or Templates in the header. Choose a blank page or search the template gallery. Filter by activities such as Map a process, Brainstorm or Plan a project.
- Templates: Start with a project brief, meeting agenda, action tracker, team retrospective, employee onboarding checklist, approval workflow, customer support process or content publishing workflow. The gallery also includes practical diagram starters: org charts, mind maps, user journeys, SWOT, Kanban, roadmaps, Gantt charts, wireframes, sequence and ER diagrams, Venn diagrams, priority matrices and floor plans. Use Work with a team for meetings, responsibilities and follow-up. Each card explains what the template helps you do.
- Copy between pages: select shapes, press More, then Copy to or Move to another page. You can also Copy (Ctrl+C), open another page and choose Page, Paste them on this page.
- Duplicate: Ctrl+D or the Duplicate button.
Build from text
Build from text (flowcharts)
Press Build, type or paste text, then choose Start fresh (replace the page) or Add to page (place it beside what's there). epicdraw lays the diagram out for you.
Start > Check email > Urgent? Urgent? -yes-> Reply now > Done Urgent? -no-> Add to to-do list > Done
The rules
- Join steps with
>. One chain per line. - Label an arrow by writing the label between dashes:
-yes->. - Reuse the exact same step name on another line to branch or merge.
- A step ending in
?becomes a decision diamond. A step starting with Start, End or Done becomes a rounded start/end shape. - Lines starting with
#are notes and are ignored. - Icons are picked automatically for words like "email", "user", "database" or "idea". Untick Use icons to turn that off.
Tags choose a shape, colour or icon
Put tags in braces before a step, separated by commas.
{ellipse,leaf} Start > {bulb} Idea > {diamond,sun} Good idea?
Good idea? -yes-> {rocket} Launch
Good idea? -no-> {warn, rose} Drop it
Shapes: rect diamond ellipse para round triangle hexagon chevron blockarrow bubble callout and more. Colours: sun rose sky leaf peach mint lilac white. Ink colours: red orange yellow green blue purple. Any icon name from the palette also works as a tag.
Mermaid
Mermaid flowcharts are recognised, so you can paste them from other tools.
flowchart TD
A[Start] --> B{Ready?}
B -->|yes| C[Ship it]
B -->|no| D[Fix it]
Use Fill with this page's text to turn what you have drawn back into text. Export, Copy as Mermaid gives you the Mermaid version.
Build from text
Let an AI write it
- Press Build. In the box at the bottom, describe the diagram if you like, for example "how a customer returns an item".
- Tick Include my current diagram if you want the AI to change what you have.
- Press Copy AI prompt.
- Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant. It replies with text in epicdraw's format.
- Paste the reply into the Build box and press Start fresh.
The prompt teaches the assistant every format in this guide: flowcharts, icons, charts, mockups, mind maps, sequence and ER diagrams, Gantt, Venn and matrices. Export, Copy as text (for an AI) copies your diagram in the same format.
Diagram types
Mind maps
Type an indented list in Build. The first line is the central idea. Indent with two spaces for each level down. Branches spread out on both sides in different colours.
mind map
My big idea
Goals
Grow the audience
Ship version 1
People
Team
Customers
Money
Budget
Pricing
The words "mind map" on the first line are optional when the list is clearly indented under one top line. Each box is an ordinary shape afterwards, so you can move, recolour or add to it.
Diagram types
Sequence diagrams
A sequence diagram shows who talks to whom, in order. Each participant is a box with a dashed line running down. Each message is an arrow at a set height between two lines.
From text
sequence Browser -> Server: GET /login Server -> Database: Look up user Database --> Server: User record Server -> Server: Check password Server --> Browser: 200 OK and cookie
-> is a solid message and --> is a dashed reply. A message to the same participant makes a loop. Add participant Db as Database lines to set the order or a longer display name. Mermaid sequenceDiagram text works too.
By hand
- Add participants from Icons, Diagram types. Double-tap to name them. Drag the bottom handle to make the lifeline longer.
- Choose Arrow and drag from one lifeline to another. The message stays horizontal at the height where you let go.
- Drag the round handle on a selected message up or down to move it. Double-tap or use Write to label it.
In Present mode, messages appear one at a time.
Diagram types
ER (database) diagrams
An ER table has a name at the top and one field per row. Links end in marks that say how many of each side there can be.
From text
er Customer: id PK, name, email Order: id PK, customer_id FK, placed_on, total Customer 1-0..* Order : places
On the link line, the symbol nearest each table says how many of that table:
| Write | Meaning | Mark drawn |
|---|---|---|
1 | exactly one | two bars |
0..1 | zero or one | bar and circle |
1..* | one or more | crow's foot and bar |
0..* or * | zero or more | crow's foot and circle |
End a field with PK or FK to mark a key. Mermaid erDiagram text works as well.
By hand
Add ER table from the palette. Double-tap it and write the name on the first line, then one field per line. Join two tables with the Arrow tool. Select the link and pick the ends under Link start (ER) and Link end (ER) in Style.
Diagram types
Gantt charts
A Gantt chart shows tasks as bars along a timeline. A task with the same start and end shows as a milestone.
From text
{gantt} Website launch: Plan=1..2; Design=2..5; Build=4..9; Test=8..10; Launch=10..10
Use numbers (weeks, sprints, days) or dates like 2026-03-02..2026-03-13. Add a colour at the end, for example Build=4..9,leaf.
By hand
Add Gantt chart from the palette and double-tap it. Write a title, then one task per line as name | start | end.
Drive it from a table
- Make a table with the columns Task, Start, End. Start and End can be numbers or dates. A column headed Duration works instead of End.
- Select the table and press Make a Gantt from it.
- Edit the table. The chart follows. Use Unlink in Style to make the chart independent.
Diagram types
Venn diagrams and 2x2 matrices
Venn
{venn3} What makes a great product: Useful; Usable; Desirable; Fit for purpose; Tempting; Enjoyable; The sweet spot
After the title come the labels: for three circles A, B, C, A+B, A+C, B+C, then all three. For two circles use {venn} with left, right and overlap. Double-tap the shape to edit the same list. The first line is the title and can be blank.
2x2 matrix
{matrix} What should we do first?: x=Effort; y=Impact; Quick wins; Big bets; Fill-ins; Money pits
After x= and y= (the axis names) come the four boxes: top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right. Choose Priority matrix (2x2) or Eisenhower matrix from the templates for a ready start.
Diagram types
Diagram starters
Open Icons and look under Diagram types. Pick a starter, then tap the page. It drops a small example diagram on the current page, with every part selected so you can drag it into place. Double-tap any part to change its words. Undo removes the whole starter in one step.
| Starter | What you get |
|---|---|
| Kanban board | To do, Doing and Done columns holding flip cards. Drag cards between columns. Moving a column moves the cards inside it. On a locked page cards and sticky notes can still be dragged between columns, but not off the board. Any two or more frames side by side, with the same top and height, work as a board. |
| Mind map | A central idea with four branches. For a bigger map, write an indented list in Build. |
| Flowchart | Start, a step, a yes/no decision, a loop back to fix the problem, and a finish. |
| Org chart | One box with three reports, joined by elbow connectors. |
| SWOT | A 2x2 grid for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Double-tap it to rename the boxes. Add sticky notes on top for the details. |
| PDCA cycle | Plan, Do, Check and Act, joined in a loop. |
| Swimlane process | Three lanes (Customer, Team, System) with steps passing between them. |
| Pyramid chart and Funnel chart | Stacked layers, one label each. Double-tap to edit: a title on the first line (it can be blank), then one layer per line, top to bottom. Add or remove lines to change the number of layers. Its fill colour sets the first layer. |
Diagram types
Charts and tables that feed them
Add a chart from the palette (bar, line, pie, donut), or write one in Build:
{chart:bar} Sales: #2025,2026; Q1=12,15; Q2=18,22; Q3=9,14
#2025,2026 names the series. Each label=number, number is one row. Types: bar stack line area pie donut.
To edit a chart, double-tap it. Write the title first, then one row per line as label: number, adding more numbers for more series. You can paste from a spreadsheet. Change the type in Style under Chart type.
Link a chart to a table
- Make a table. The first row holds series names, the first column holds labels, the rest are numbers.
- Select the table and press Make a chart from it. Or select a chart and press Link to a table (with the table selected too, or the nearest table is used).
- Edit the table and the chart redraws. Unlink stops the sync.
Diagram types
Interface mockups and wireframes
The Interface mockups group has a button, input, search box, dropdown, toggle, slider, tabs, nav bar, browser window, phone screen, card, picture box and avatar. Double-tap to edit the label. In tabs, separate names with | and put * in front of the active one. Select a toggle and tap it to flip it.
In Build text: {ui:button} Sign up, {ui:input} Email address, {ui:browser} myapp.com. The Website wireframe template shows them together.
Diagram types
Floor plans and maps
- Open Page and choose a Plan scale (it only appears once the page has a room, door or other plan piece): 1 metre equals 1, 2 or 4 grid squares. The default is 2.
- From the palette, add a Room. Drag on the page to draw it at the size you want. It shows its size in metres, for example 4 × 3.5 m.
- Add doors and windows on the walls. Their bottom edge sits on the wall line. Use the rotate handle to put them on other walls.
- Add furniture from the same Floor plan palette section: bed, sofa, tables, chairs, desk, wardrobe, toilet, bath, sink, cooker, fridge, plant, rug.
- Add a Measurement line for an overall dimension. Its label updates when you stretch it.
Select a room to set the name position (centre, top, bottom) and to show or hide the size label. Rooms sit behind everything else and only their walls are clickable, so you can select furniture inside. Lock the rooms once they are right. The Floor plan (flat) template is a good starting point. The same pieces work for simple maps and site plans.
Diagram types
Interactive widgets
Open Icons and find the Interactive section. Every widget below works on a locked page. On an unlocked page, select the widget first, then tap it (the first tap selects, so you can still drag it into place).
| Widget | What it does |
|---|---|
| Progress bar | Tap the bar to set it. In the style panel choose Follow the to-dos and it fills as boxes are ticked. Select a to-do as well to choose which one. |
| Status pill | Tap to cycle Not started, In progress, Blocked, Done. Shift or Alt-tap goes back. |
| Star rating | Tap a star to set 1 to 5. Tap the same star again to lower it. |
| Counter +/- | Plus and minus buttons around a number. The text is the label. |
| Choice list | A question with radio options. Double-tap to edit: question first, then one option per line. |
| Reveal card | Question on the front, hidden answer on the back. Double-tap to edit: front on line one, answer underneath. |
| Flip card | A task card with two sides. The front has a coloured strip (its fill colour), the task, and the owner or due date. Tap it to turn it over. The back has details and a checklist you can tick on the card. To edit, select it and press Write: put the front first, then a line with ---, then the back. Start a back line with [ ] to make a tick box. The ↻ mark in the corner shows the card has another side. |
| Fold-away section | Heading with text that folds away when tapped. |
| Timer | Play, pause and reset. Pick 1 to 25 minutes in the style panel. It keeps counting after a reload and beeps at zero. |
| Go-to button | Jumps to another page, or zooms to a shape on this page. Select it and use Button goes to. |
| Dice and Random picker | Tap to roll. The picker chooses from names you list (double-tap to edit). |
| Dot voting | A fixed number of dots (3, 5, 7 or 10) that fill as you tap. Shift or Alt-tap takes one back. |
| Poll bars | Tap an answer to add a vote and the bars grow. Double-tap to edit the answers. |
| Live totals | Adds up ticked to-dos, votes, counters, average rating and poll answers on the page. It updates as people tap. |
More interactive touches
- Tick boxes in tables: start a table cell with
[ ](or[x]for ticked) and it becomes a tick box you can tap. - Path walker: on a locked flowchart, tap any step to highlight it and the steps it leads to. Everything else fades. Tap the same step or empty space to clear.
- Reset: select widgets and press Reset to start to zero votes, counts, ticks and picks.
Diagram types
Stickers and votes
The Stickers icon pack has a heart, star, tick, cross, question mark, important mark, 100, sparkle, eyes and four coloured vote dots. Search the palette for "thumbs", "party", "smile" or "fire" for more reactions.
For counting votes, add a Vote counter (palette group Workshop). Select it, then tap it to add one vote. Hold Alt and tap to take one away. Style also has +1, −1 and Reset, and a choice of heart, star or plus.
A quick way to run a dot vote is to give everyone a copy of a coloured vote dot sticker and drag them onto the ideas they like.

Locking a page
Lock a page when a diagram is finished and you only want people to use it. Nothing can be selected, moved, typed into or deleted, but the interactive parts still work.
- Open Page and choose Lock this page. A padlock appears on the tab and a Page locked · Unlock button appears in the corner.
- Still works: ticking to-do boxes and table tick boxes, vote counters (tap to add, Shift or Alt-tap to take one away), toggles, all the interactive widgets, dragging cards and sticky notes between the columns of a Kanban board (they stay inside the board), go-to buttons, picture pins and hotspots, the before/after slider, gallery arrows, tapping a flowchart step to highlight its path, links, hover notes, panning, zooming, Fit, Present and Export.
- Hidden while locked: the tools, style panel, Undo, Redo, Tidy, Build and Clear. Delete, paste, drag and drop and double-tap editing are switched off.
- Each page locks separately and stays locked after a reload. Press Page locked · Unlock (or the Page menu item) to edit again.
- This is different from the per-shape Lock button, which only pins one shape.
Sharing
Present mode and animation
Press Present to show your diagram one piece at a time. The page goes full screen.
- Next / Back: the buttons, arrow keys, Space, or tap the right and left side of the screen.
- Play: steps forward automatically every couple of seconds. It becomes Pause.
- Animate: on/off: when on, shapes fade in and arrows draw themselves. When off, upcoming shapes show as faint ghosts.
- Exit: the button or Esc.
In a flowchart the order comes from the arrows: things with nothing pointing at them appear first, then what they point to. In a sequence diagram each message is a step. Shapes with no arrows, such as charts and tables, are always visible. Notes and links attached to the current step show beneath the controls.

Paper, themes and wobble
Page holds the look of the current page.
- Paper: Grid, Dots, Lines, Blank.
- Themes: Chalkboard, Blueprint, Neon night, Old paper, Pastel, Midnight (dark), Graphite (dark), Sunset and Ocean. Ink and paper colours change together, so text stays readable.
- Wobble: how hand-drawn everything looks. Zero is nearly straight, three is very sketchy.
- Plan scale: for floor plans. See Floor plans.
Each page keeps its own paper, theme and wobble.

Saving and backups
epicdraw saves after every change, in this browser on this device. You don't need an account, and without one nothing is sent anywhere. To keep the same pages on several devices, see Accounts and sync.
The header shows Saved on this device. Select it to open Backups and recovery. If browser storage is full or blocked, the indicator changes to Not saved · Download backup and stays visible until a save succeeds. Download all pages immediately to keep any unsaved work.
- Download page file (.json) from Export, or copy the text from Save or load text… into a note or email.
- To restore, open Export, Save or load text…, then either paste the text and press Load, or press Open file… and choose the .json file.
- Back up everything: choose Download all pages from the save indicator or Export menu. This creates one .json file containing all your pages and their pictures.
- Restore without replacing: open Backups and recovery and choose Restore a backup…. Select an all-pages backup or an older single-page file. The restored pages are added beside your existing pages.
- Saved versions: choose Save a version of this page before experimenting. Recovery copies are also saved before clearing, rebuilding or replacing a page and before deleting a page. Up to 12 recent copies are kept across all pages, subject to available storage; older copies are removed as this limit is reached.
- Recover a page: find it in Saved versions and deleted pages and press Restore copy. A new page is added. These copies survive closing the browser but are removed if you clear site data, so they do not replace downloaded backups.
- To move work to another device, use the same save-and-load route, sign in to sync, or export a PNG or PDF.

- Press Sign in in the header, then Create an account. Enter your email and a password of at least 8 characters.
- Your existing pages upload straight away. The save indicator changes to Saved · Synced.
- On your other device, open epicdraw and sign in with the same email and password. If that device already has pages, choose Combine to keep both sets, or Use account pages to replace them with your account's pages.
- Everyday use: changes upload a couple of seconds after you make them. Other devices pick them up when you switch back to the tab, and every minute while it is open. Your pages are still saved on each device and still work offline. Anything you change offline syncs when you reconnect.
- Edited in two places at once? Edits are merged page by page. If the same page was changed on two devices before they synced, both versions are kept, and one is renamed (this device). Nothing is overwritten.
- Save indicator: Saved · Synced means the cloud copy is up to date. Sync paused means you're offline and changes will upload later. Sign in to sync means your session ended, so sign in again. Sync failed shows a reason in the Account panel.
- Account panel: press Account in the header to sync now, sign out, change your password, or delete your account. Changing your password signs out your other devices.
- Signing out or deleting your account keeps the pages on that device. Deleting removes the cloud copy permanently.
- Limit: up to 25 MB of pages per account. Large photos use the most space, so crop or remove big pictures if you reach it.
- Forgotten password: press Sign in, then Forgotten your password?, and enter your email. We'll email you a link that works once, for one hour. Open it, choose a new password, and you're signed in. Your other devices are signed out. Your pages stay safe on your devices throughout. If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or contact support@epicdraw.app.

Common questions and fixes
My page is empty after I came back.
Pages live in the browser. If site data was cleared, or you're in a different browser, they are gone from that browser. If you have an account, sign in again and they sync back. Otherwise, restore from a backup with Save or load text…. See Saving and backups.
I can't move a shape.
It may be locked (the button says Unlock when it is selected), or it is part of a group that you're trying to resize. Rooms and lanes only respond on their edges and name, so drag by the wall or the title.
A drag selects a box instead of moving the shape.
You started on empty paper. Press on the shape itself, or on a room's wall.
The fonts look plain.
The handwriting fonts are bundled with the app. If they look plain, reload once while online so the offline cache can finish updating.
Download buttons are missing.
Where the browser doesn't let a page save files, the Download items don't show. Use the Copy options instead.
Build made something odd.
Check that each chain uses > and that names repeat exactly. A name that differs by a letter becomes a new shape. Press Undo, edit the text and build again.
Undo went too far.
Press Redo or Ctrl+Y.
Where do I report a problem or ask for a feature?
Email support@epicdraw.app. Say what you were trying to do, what happened, and which browser and device you were using. A screenshot or an exported page file helps.

Find, commands, accessible editing and exports
Find searches shape text, connection labels and page names across the workspace. Use Ctrl+F to open it. Choose a result to open its page and centre it on screen.
Commands (Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on Mac) lets you search actions. Use the arrow keys to move between results and Enter to run one.
The minimap shows the whole diagram and your current view. Click or tap it to move the view. Keyboard users can navigate with Find or Canvas list. Canvas list lets you select shapes and connections, change text, move shapes, and connect them without dragging.
New connections use Smart routing to avoid shapes. You can choose Straight, Curved or Elbow in the selection panel. Manually bent arrows keep their bends. Tidy arranges the nodes and then smart arrows are routed again.
Build previews your diagram before changing the page. Errors show their line numbers; click an error to select the relevant source line. Fix errors to enable the build buttons. Warnings explain which features are omitted from the preview.
Use Export → Export options… for padding, selected items, transparent PNG/SVG backgrounds, and A4, Letter, square or widescreen proportions. A4 and Letter PDFs have the matching physical page size. An exported SVG includes the bundled handwriting fonts.
Pages and their pictures are stored in IndexedDB when available, with browser storage as a fallback. A conflicting save from another tab shows Conflict · Download your edits. Download all pages to preserve your unsaved edits before reloading. The app never automatically replaces those edits with another tab's version.
Handwriting fonts are included with the app. Once the offline cache is installed, the editor and exports work without a connection.
